How much gravel for a 10 x 20 area?
Short answer
- A 10 x 20 ft area is 200 square feet. At 3 inches deep it needs 1.85 cubic yards (50 cubic feet) of gravel.
- With 10% extra: 2.9 tons (2.04 cubic yards).
- It's typically a patio, a path or a parking spot.

Cubic yards are shown without extra so you can compare quotes. The other columns include 10% extra, and tons use 105 lb per cubic foot. Ask your supplier for the exact weight of their material.

How the math works
10 ft × 20 ft = 200 sq ft. At 3 inches deep that's 200 × 3 ÷ 12 = 50 cubic feet, and ÷ 27 = 1.85 cubic yards. Adding 10% gives 55 cubic feet to buy.
How deep should it be?
For a top-up on an existing gravel surface, 2 to 3 inches is common. New driveways and paver bases are built thicker, in compacted layers: Unilock's guide calls for 6 to 8 inches of base under patios and walkways and 10 to 14 inches under paver driveways.
